DISTRICT 14
This district stretches across the northern lands of Illinois, spanning parts of DeKalb, Kane, Kendall, LaSalle, and Will Counties. Its borders embrace the communities of Aurora, Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles, Oswego, Yorkville, and Sycamore.
The Fourteenth is a realm transformed by time. Once a steadfast Republican stronghold, its fate has shifted with the changing currents of history. For two decades, the district was guarded by Dennis Hastert, the powerful Speaker of the House. When Hastert departed in 2007, Democrat Bill Foster claimed the seat, but his victory proved brief. In 2010, Republican Randy Hultgren reclaimed the district and defended it for eight years. Then came another turning point.
In 2018, Democrat Lauren Underwood, a nurse and master of public health, defeated Hultgren and ushered in a new era for the Fourteenth. Since then, she has defended the district in every contest, dedicating her efforts to healthcare, veterans' affairs, and education.
The Fourteenth bears a Cook Partisan Voting Index of D+4, making it a realm that leans slightly toward the Democratic faction. Its people come from many backgrounds. While the population is predominantly White, thriving Hispanic, Asian, and Black communities also call these lands home. The district unites fertile farmland with the growing suburbs of the Fox River Valley, blending quiet rural towns with expanding centers of commerce. The realm prospers with a median household income above the national average, reflecting a strong mix of middle-class and affluent communities. Standing between countryside and suburb, tradition and change, the Fourteenth remains one of Illinois' most closely contested frontiers.
